COURSE CONTENT
The content of the courses is designed under the guidance of Urška Centa, a trained dancer and choreographer with many years of pedagogical experience. In working with students, she is joined by long-time flamenco dancers Mojca Medvedšek and Ana Popović, as well as a team of guest dance educators from the broader field of contemporary dance practices. The regular courses are designed as a blend of contemporary and traditional flamenco, focusing on universal knowledge of movement, perception, and the mastery of the anatomical structure of our instrument – the body. The learning process includes the connection between flamenco movement, sound, and rhythm, along with an introduction to basic music theory. In addition to learning movement, we also train our instrument through clapping, foot stomping techniques, and performing rhythmic dance sequences. The courses provide a comprehensive insight into the art of flamenco from both a dance and musical perspective. The difficulty levels are adapted to various stages of knowledge, with all courses including work on dance technique, learning choreography, and exploring creative movement.
Flamenco Señoras is aimed at exploring flamenco in the later stages of life. The group is suitable for both beginners and those who already have some experience with flamenco dance.
Flamenco I is a beginner group designed to introduce the basics of flamenco dance.
Flamenco II is for dancers with some dance experience who are already beginning to understand the movement patterns in flamenco and wish to gain more independence in their dance expression.
Technique and Movement Analysis is an open class as the topics are suitable for various skill levels. The program explores the use and expansion of flamenco dance technique into general knowledge and understanding of movement. In addition to strengthening agility and fitness, it focuses on awareness of body structures and anatomy through somatic practices. Flamenco movement exercises also include work with shoes and are designed differently each time. This class is recommended as a supplementary program for all regular courses that take place once a week.
Flamenco III is for those who wish to deepen their exploration of the flamenco form and its expressiveness and already have prior knowledge.
Flamenco IV is an established group for experienced dancers. The technical part of the class is tailored to the individual, while the other part of the class focuses on the creation of choreography. Classes are held twice a week, and prior advanced knowledge of flamenco dance is required to join.
