Summer flamenco intensives with Urška Centa
Workshops led by dancer, choreographer, music creator, and educator Urška Centa are intended for professional dancers and dancers with more experience, as well as those who are just getting to know flamenco.
The pedagogic method is based on allowing participants to express themselves through movement and personal gestures, regardless of their previous dance experience. The first hour will be based on flamenco body technique: we will learn the simplicity of movement within the flamenco form, seeking a path to the naturalness of motion and spontaneity of movement actions within it. While searching for rhythm, we will establish a connection of bodies through dance, learn from each other, and discover hidden gestures carried by our bodies. The second part of the workshop will be dedicated to choreographic work and therefore more suitable for experienced dancers. We will explore how to dance without overthinking and unnecessary extra effort, and share our short rhythmical improvisations with one another. We will focus on the seguiriya style, refining our rhythmic precision and musicality.

PEDAGOGUE
Urška Centa is a dancer, music creator, choreographer, dance educator, and producer whose creative foundation lies in the art of flamenco. She acquired her knowledge at the Madrid flamenco academies Centro de Danza Española y Arte Flamenco Amor de Dios and Centro Superior de Estudios del Flamenco UFlamenco. She graduated in contemporary dance and choreography from the Academy of Dance at AMEU in Ljubljana. She shapes a unique creative world and, in pursuit of an intercultural vision, develops a performative language that emerges between flamenco and contemporary dance. As one of the rare Slovenian dance creators, her simultaneous involvement in music distinguishes her. She collaborates with prominent Slovenian and foreign artists and performs on significant stages both domestically and internationally (Cankarjev dom, Kino Šiška, Slovenian Permanent Theatre in Trieste, Slovenian National Theatre Drama, Ptuj City Theatre, Sarajevo War Theatre, Teatro Palamostre, Bi Flamenko, 59th Ljubljana Jazz Festival, Zagreb Week of Contemporary Dance, etc.).
Among her notable original projects are “Na pragu nevidnega” with Jure Pukl (Zavod NEST, 2022), “Sinsonte, v grlu pozabljena pesem” (Cankarjev dom, Zavod Flota, 2022), “Zgodbe o pticah” with Marc de Ano (Zavod NEST, 2021), “Zvoki izpod kože” with Kristyna Šajtošova, Anja Möderndorfer, and Sara Janašković (Zavod NEST, 2021), “ENO – ONE” (Cankarjev dom, Zavod Flota, 2020), “Lorca, ti in jaz” with Katja Šulc and Robert Jukič (2018), “Eno balado, prosim!” with Zvezdana Novaković (2018), and her involvement in musical ensembles “Sentido project” and “Nairuz”.
As an educator within the LearningNEST program, she regularly teaches in Ljubljana and often conducts workshops throughout Slovenia and abroad (Royal Conservatoire The Hague (NL), Die Rozenfabriek (NL), Summer Dance School JSKD (SI), Winter Dance School JSKD (SI), A. S. D. Viento Flamenco (IT), etc.), mentoring students’ creative work.
